Why don't we want to inquire about what truth is or why it is important? Mr. Bacon says that people who do not inquire and search for truth think that life would be boring if they did, but it's not. If you inquire about truth, then know truth, then finally believe truth, then it becomes your best friend.
Why do people lie to others in joke as in "made you look" or told someone they were something that they weren't to make them feel better? I think that people lie to others to make people either do what they want or to make them happy so they want to do something for them. But is it right? Mr. Bacon said it is not right because it debases them just like if you mix gold and silver it works better but it is worth less than if they were pure.
Also, why do we no longer want to sit and think "what does this mean" or "why something does something do what it does". My opinion would be that sin does not want us to find truth and be truly happy, so it tells us lies that make us think we will be happy if we keep doing what we are already doing.

Stephen,
Glad to see you thinking about what truth is. As we get further into Huck keep that question in mind!

Steven,
Not sure if you are reading your comments, but I came across a tidbit of info on Francis Bacon - some code writing for sending secret diplomatic messages. Just thougt you might find it interesting to think of spying and secret messages in terms of what is truth...
